Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Russian soldiers participating in the military campaign against his country to lay down their weapons and return to their country, on the fifth day of the Russian military operation.
"Save your lives and go," Zelensky said in a video clip circulating on social media, on Monday, addressing the Russian soldiers and in the Russian language. Do not believe your leaders," according to Sky News.
The Ukrainian president urged the European Union to "immediately" include his country in the bloc, under a special procedure, while it defends itself against Russian forces.
“We appeal to the European Union to immediately include Ukraine in the European Union through a new special procedure,” Zelensky said. “Our goal is to be together on the side of all Europeans, and most importantly, to be on an equal footing. I'm sure it's fair and possible."
