Russian media published a video of the participation of Ukrainian special forces with forces of the Russian army, in protecting the “Chernobyl” nuclear power plant in northern Ukraine.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, “an agreement was made with the members of the independent battalion for guarding the nuclear power plant on joint guaranteeing of the security of the reactor, the insulating dome and the depleted nuclear fuel tank.”
The statement indicated that the station's employees are continuing their activities by following up the radiation level in the area and routine maintenance of the station.
The Russian Defense pointed out that the joint action of the Russian and Ukrainian military represents a guarantee against any attempt that "extremist nationalists or other terrorist organizations" might take to take advantage of the situation in the country to orchestrate a nuclear provocation.
