The Sumy region, in northeastern Ukraine, witnessed on Tuesday the first exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and Russia since the start of the Russian military operation last week.

The head of the government administration in the Sumy region, Dmytro Zyvitsky, said in a statement that the region "witnessed the first exchange of prisoners... which included five members of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in exchange for a Russian military police officer."

The Ukrainian official published the names of the five elements involved in the prisoner exchange process, who were born in different regions of Ukraine, according to Sky News.

Regarding the details of the exchange process, Zyvitsky indicated that a “green corridor” was provided for enemy equipment; In order to carry out the prisoner exchange, it was organized by order of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Earlier, the head of the government administration in the Sumy region announced that 70 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed as a result of Russian artillery shelling on Okhtyrka (northeast of the country), noting that the bombing destroyed an entire military unit, and indicated that there were casualties among the Russian forces as well.

Last Sunday, the Ukrainian government launched a website specialized in publishing information, photos and videos of captured and dead Russian soldiers during the ongoing battles with the Ukrainian armed forces in more than one direction.

The site was established at the initiative of the Ministry of the Interior; This is “in order for Russians to be able to find out what happened to their relatives in Ukraine,” according to an adviser to the Minister of the Interior, Vadim Denisenko.

At the same time, the Ukrainian official stated that "the elements of the Russian army are deprived of mobile phones and any means of communication with their relatives, and their relatives cannot know their fate... They are told (by the Russian government) that no one was killed."
